Changi General Hospital and IBM to Build the First AI-Powered Paediatric Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) with IBM watsonx.ai and IBM watsonx Orchestrate
IBM FACTSHEET
Changi General Hospital (CGH) and IBM are pioneering a first-of-its-kind collaboration to transform Paediatric Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) preparedness. IBM AI-powered platform watsonx.ai and watsonx Orchestrate equip CGH’s healthcare teams with real-time insights to accelerate triage, coordinate resources, and support faster, more informed decisions, helping save lives when every moment matters.
Traditional training methods, such as manikin drills and paper-based simulations, are resource-intensive, hard to scale effectively, and often lack realistic performance insights. By combining immersive mixed reality with watsonx.ai for real-time scenario intelligence and watsonx Orchestrate for agentic workflow orchestration and performance tracking, the solution delivers a more realistic, scalable, and data-driven approach to emergency response training.
CGH’s healthcare teams move beyond passive simulation to hands-on experiential learning, with real-time performance insights and AI-assisted feedback. The result is improved readiness, more effective training outcomes, and the ability to scale complex emergency preparedness programs with measurable impact.
At the heart of the platform is the AI Assessor, which transforms how emergency response training is evaluated. By analysing voice communications, treatment actions, and simulation data, it delivers objective performance insights, identifies gaps in response, and enables more effective debriefing.
The solution tackles longstanding challenges in paediatric MCI preparedness, from training realism and assessment consistency to debrief quality and scalability. The result is a clinically guided, AI-powered learning platform that helps healthcare teams build readiness, improve coordination, and achieve measurable gains in emergency response performance.
AI is transforming healthcare by turning data into actionable intelligence. Through the collaboration between IBM and CGH, IBM is combining AI, mixed reality, and clinical expertise to create a next-generation training platform that delivers objective performance insights, enhances decision-making, and scales best practices across healthcare teams. The result is better-prepared clinicians, faster and more coordinated emergency response, and ultimately better outcomes for patients when every moment matters.
“AI is transforming healthcare by turning data into actionable intelligence. Leveraging for real-time scenario intelligence and watsonx Orchestrate for agentic workflow orchestration and performance tracking, Changi General Hospital is bringing together AI, mixed reality, and clinical expertise to deliver a next-generation training of Pediatric Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) preparedness that provides objective performance insights, enhances decision-making, and scales best practices across healthcare teams. This enables better-prepared clinicians, faster and more coordinated care, and ultimately safer, smarter, and more personalized outcomes for patients—especially when every moment matters.” Adjunct Assistant Professor Jimmy Goh, Senior Consultant, Department of Emergency Medicine, Changi General Hospital
